Day 137 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • An armed militia attack on the Jebel Moon area of West Darfur has left 17 dead, tens injured and tens more missing, as well as 4 villages burned. The attack started early this morning, and lasted well into the afternoon.

  • As part of March's schedule of resistance activities, protests and one-day sit-ins took place across the country today, including a sit-in in Sennar, demonstrations in Gedarif, and demonstrations and sit-ins across Khartoum.

  • In Burri and Omdurman, protests were violently repressed by #SudanCoup forces, who teargassed and shot live ammunition at protesters, injuring 48.

  • 2 children were killed by authorities: Mohamed Majdi Makki, 14 and Nabil Yahia Elfadil, 15; both were shot in the chest. The number of citizens killed by authorities since October 25 is now at 87.

  • In response, residents across the capital barricaded roads and resistance committees announced an escalation of resistance activities. The Gedarif Resistance Committees also escalated activities this evening, in solidarity with Khartoum.

  • The Sudanese Teachers Association has begun a nationwide strike today after failure by government to address teachers' repeated demands for higher salaries and improvement of teaching/learning environment.

  • Railroad workers in Atbara were also out in protest today, demanding their salaries for the month of February, and backpay from April 2021.

  • The Sudan Doctors Committee has released a report on casualties of the March 8 demonstrations across Sudan: 157 injured in Khartoum, including 44 in Medani.

  • Update on yesterday's recap regarding Ibrahim Malik Hospital general director Dr. Ali Shakir, who was suspended by #SudanCoup authorities after his refusal to implement fee hike on services: he has now been dismissed from his post. Several heads of departments of the hospital have resigned in protest.
