Day 135 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • At least 13 cities came out in protest today, on this 22nd round of nationwide mass demonstrations since October 25, 2021.

  • Today's demonstrations celebrated women in honor of International Women's Day. They were a chance to celebrate women's role and contributions to the resistance; but also, for women to highlight their struggles in this patriarchal society. At the student protest in Gedarif, the message was loud and clear: "we matter, we belong, we decide".

  • Abroad, Sudanese communities in Paris, France and Melbourne, Australia also came out in protest, showing their support for the resistance against #SudanCoup, as well as the fight for women's rights in Sudan. Women at home and abroad donned the symbolic white 'tobe' (traditional garment).

  • As usual, demonstrations in Central Khartoum, Port Sudan and Medani were attacked by #SudanCoup forces; the number of casualties in those cities is still unconfirmed.

  • Citizens continue to live in severe insecurity in Jebel Moon: according to a statement released today by the West Darfur Doctors Committee, another series of armed militia attacks has rocked the area, leaving 16 dead and 16 injured. A reminder that #SudanCoup authorities sent a 3000-strong joint task force to contain the insecurity situation in Darfur, with absolutely zero result.
