Day 123 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • Demonstrations rejecting #SudanCoup and military rule took place across the tri-city capital of Khartoum. Protests also took place in a number of other cities, including Kosti, Atbara, Gedarif and Meshu in Northern State.

  • The Khartoum demonstrations, which were attacked by #SudanCoup forces, led to 113 injured, according to the Sudan Doctors Committee. Most injuries were caused by direct hits with teargas canisters.

  • #SudanCoup authorities continue to forge ahead with the reinstatement of the Bashir regime: the Ministry of Education has ordered the rehiring of 97 teachers and a number of ministry staff previously removed by the disempowerment committee.

  • According to Reuters, #SudanCoup authorities have released 113 of 135 (known) detainees; many more remain in custody, in Khartoum and across the country. These efforts to free detainees likely prompted by UN Human Rights expert Adama Dieng's visit, which ended today.
