Day 121 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • Called for by resistance committees of the city, residents of Medani came out in a large demonstration, one day after the 20th round of nationwide mass demonstrations to reiterate their rejection of military rule.

  • The demonstration, which aimed to reach the State government headquarters, was suppressed by #SudanCoup forces, who used teargas and live ammunition on peaceful protesters. Medani Resistance Committees reported 5 casualties who received medical attention at the hospital, 3 of whom suffered gunshot wounds.

  • Over 10 people were also arrested by #SudanCoup forces during the demonstrations; several remain detained by police despite bail being posted.

  • In response to yesterday's sit-in by student residents of Alquds women's dormitory, the University of Nyala has suspended classes indefinitely. The students, whose sit-in has completed its second day, are protesting the lack of safety and security at their dorm after repeated armed militia attacks that have terrorized the residents - an extension of the violence citizens across Darfur continue to face.

  • A second draft of a proposed political charter was released today, signed by 22 resistance committees and revolutionary groups from across Sudan, including Jezira, Sennar, Red Sea and River Nile States, as well as from across the Darfur states. The proposed political charter (which was not signed by any resistance committees from Khartoum State, who are preparing their own version), is a major step, showing increased unity within the resistance and bringing the nation one step closer to a unified political vision and plan post-coup.
